User Guidelines

We are here to support each other and have discussions on important and sensitive matters. We created these guidelines to keep the spaces we manage as safe as possible for everyone. Consider our online spaces as a “brave space” where you can ask questions and learn. Racism is a difficult topic, and feelings may get hurt, so please consider what you post. If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t post it.

By being a member of our website, Facebook groups, or other online space operated by M.O.R.E, you agree to follow all of the guidelines outlined below when making posts, comments, and other contributions.

Depending on the severity of the violation, if a post or comment violates these guidelines, you will be asked to edit the post or comment to make it comply, or it will be deleted by a moderator or administrator. Moderators are not here to censor content or curate conversations; they are here to enforce these guidelines to keep our digital spaces civil and safe.

All of the digital and online spaces that M.O.R.E manages and moderates, including these forums, are not places to debate if racism, in any form, is real in Mt. Lebanon. We know that it is; our forums and other spaces are available for discussing what to do about it. Any posts or comments that suggest, imply, or outright say that racism is not real or relevant in Mt. Lebanon will be deleted and the account will be permanently banned. M.O.R.E does not tolerate racism.

When sharing content from external sources like social media posts, news articles, videos, or podcasts, please include context as to why you’re sharing it. Without context to ignite the conversation, it is unlikely for people to check out what you’re sharing. Context may include a brief description of what it is you’re sharing and your perspective or opinion on it.

Everyone and anyone is welcome to become a member of this website and contribute toward our goals, including people not residing in Mt. Lebanon. Please be inclusive of trans and gender non-conforming individuals, all kinds of families (single parents, blended families, non-binary parents, and many other combinations), and refrain from making sweeping generalizations and using ableist language.

Ableist language is any word or phrase that devalues people who have a disability or condition. Examples include using words like crazy, nuts, madhouse, short bus, insane, lame, crippled by, etc. Using mental illnesses as a slur is strictly forbidden. Saying things like “a little OCD” when you mean “tidy” or calling somebody a “narccisist” when you mean “selfish”.

If you do use ableist language or language that is not inclusive, we’ll ask you to edit. Remember, we are not scolding you. This includes quoting and citing other people. Censoring the word is not enough—paraphrase the quote or citation in your own words instead.

We understand this rule can be difficult to follow because everyone is entitled to their own opinions. However, these are our moderated forums, so if your post or comment is judging someone else, regardless of topic, it will be deleted. You can disagree with someone, but don’t wish ill on them or make assumptions about their entire character.

Don’t post screenshots of text messages or other online private conversations. You most likely don’t have the consent of the other person to publish their words. Please paraphrase such content instead. Screenshots of public content is allowed.

Please do not use language that suggests violence, regardless of the interaction that incited it, even if it’s intended as a joke. We only encourage peaceful protests.

Do not use insults that are aimed at a specific gender. Swearing is fine if it’s contextual and can be applied to anyone (everyone has an asshole). This includes quoting and citing other people. Censoring the word is not enough—paraphrase the quote or citation in your own words instead.

Please do not advertise your products or services unless commenting on a post specifically looking for recommendations related to your products or services. This includes votes for contacts or sources for blogs, articles, or surveys. Our members aren’t a resource for anyone to farm.

Fundraising and petition posts are exceptions but please only create one thread per fundraiser or petition.

Comments added to purely bump a post will be deleted. Instead, use the voting feature to increase or decrease the value of a post or comment.

Do not create posts that state “please delete if not allowed”. It means you haven’t read the rules and it makes our forum moderators feel like our time isn’t valuable. These will be deleted, regardless of the content.

If you notice a post or comment that breaks a rule, please use the report feature or message a forum moderator. It’s the easiest, kindest way for us to identify the situation and handle it with the appropriate level of discretion.

If new rules are instituted or a forum moderator or site administrator makes a comment reminding everyone of a rule, please do not attempt to “rubberneck” the situation by posting things like, “I missed the drama!”. Comments like this are unkind and having a post removed is embarrassing enough.

We understand you are human. We do not expect you to be perfect. Everybody breaks a rule eventually, usually on accident, so please be mindful.

Did something you post get deleted? You won’t always get a message from us explaining why. There are more members than moderators, and the moderators have lives and jobs too. If you have a question about something, please reach out to us. We talk to one another and can work together to figure out a solution to the issue.
Three strikes and you’re out. Egregious, repeated violations of the rules will result in removal. A warning will be given after two (2) violations. This is rare, but it happens, and it doesn’t make anyone feel good.
If anything happens in our spaces that make you feel uncomfortable, please contact us.

Additionally, please take a moment to read and understand our privacy policy and terms of service that you agree to by using and registering to this website.
