Steering Committee member Stephanie Edmond-Myers had a surprise visit from Elaine Frantz, M.O.R.E’s Justice Reform Committee chair, and Steering Committee members Donna DiNardo and Tessa Watkins, where she was presented with a #LoveLebo sign last night on October 7th.
Stephanie joined the Steering Committee of Mt. Lebanon Organization for Racial Equality in July 2020. If it were not for Stephanie’s persistence, skill, and hard work, M.O.R.E would not be what it is today. The organization, which sprung up quickly as our community mobilized in response to the horrific death of George Floyd at the hands of police, grew rapidly and steadily. But no one was quite sure what to do next. Stephanie stepped forward at a crucial moment to turn this unwieldy group of well-intentioned people into a formal, professional organization that will be able to endure for the long term.
Stephanie’s commitment knows no limits. She is tireless in her work for social justice. When Elaine was planning how to surprise her with this sign, Elaine knew that all we had to do was simply ask her if she could be available for a Zoom meeting, knowing full well it would be right after another one, following a full day of Zoom meetings. Stephanie, of course, said yes. She is always willing to speak when something needs to be said and she motivates all of us to keep up the struggle.
The Mt. Lebanon Partnership is hosting a campaign to share some love around our community by placing #LoveLebo signs in the yards of people who have either inspired us or impacted our lives in some way. If you see a sign in your yard, it means that you’ve affected someone in our community in a positive way. Please leave it in your yard for 30 days and feel free to “pay it forward” and leave it in a person’s yard who has inspired you after your time is up.
