Steering Committee Updates for 2021

2 minute read

New Steering Committee Member

M.O.R.E’s Steering Committee has welcomed local advocate Elaine Frantz into the committee! She has already been leading our Justice Reform Committee as its chair, but we voted in December to have our committee chairs represent themselves instead of using a liaison. Elaine is now the fifth member of our provisional Steering Committee along with currently serving members Olivia Benson, Donna DiNardo, Stephanie Edmond-Myers, and Tessa Watkins.

You can always see who the current members are on our about us page. If you have any comments, questions , or concerns directly for the Steering Committee, please email us at SteeringCommittee@LeboFightsRacism.com or use the contact form on our website.

Term Limits

Last summer, we announced the first iteration of our provisional Steering Committee made up of four members with a six-month term. It was deemed provisional because we were un-elected. To complete our work in establishing the process for M.O.R.E, we voted on term limits and how the democratic election process will be for filling Steering Committee seats going forward. We decided that a standard one year of service was ideal and that our provisional term limits would be extended to match, setting a term expiration date for the provisional Steering Committee in June 2021.

Steering Committee Election

Steering Committee members will be elected using a multi-winner election, held asynchronously for all M.O.R.E members starting on the first Monday of May and will open for seven (7) days (known as the “election week”). Every member of M.O.R.E will be able to vote online to submit a single ranked-choice ballot or write-in during election week.

To encourage members to join the Steering Committee, all Steering Committee meetings in March and April will be open to all M.O.R.E members as silent spectators. Interested members can experience how the meetings are run and if elected, will reduce the transition period and ease the learning curve.

Candidate Eligibility

  1. Must be an active member of M.O.R.E
    1. An “active member” is defined as someone who has attended and participated in at least two (2) committee meetings in the last three (3) months.
    2. Participation in a committee meeting is defined as having their video on (if via Zoom) and having spoken or contributed to a discussion.
  2. Must have expressed explicit interest in writing to SteeringCommittee@LeboFightsRacism.com
    1. If nominated by another active M.O.R.E member, then the candidate will be contacted for their acceptance to be listed on the ballot.
    2. If won by write-in, then the winner will be contacted for their acceptance of the position.
